Aluma cuffs are an exquisite example of passion and concept meeting craftsmanship and telling a wonderful journey as a final object of desire. The Aluma cuffs from Karin are inspired by algae on her many Antarctic visits as a marine biologist. Anodised aluminium and gently adjustable by slight pressure to reduce size. Karin grew up in South Australia but moved to Tasmania in 1995 to fulfill her childhood dream of living and working in Antarctica. She spent two summers in Antarctica researching the role of microscopic plankton in climate change for her doctoral thesis. Inspired by the amazing array of microscopic patterns and forms in the ocean and ice, she created her first piece of metal sculpture in the diesel mechanics workshop at Davis Station, Antarctica, 1998. This planted a seed that would later see her embark on combining her creativity and scientific knowledge to create jewellery and objects that carry meaning and promote dialogue.
Since gaining a Diploma in Art, Craft, Design (Jewellery) in 2006, Karin’s jewellery has been exhibited nationally and internationally in France, USA, Singapore, and Argentina. In 2007 she was awarded the Australian Government’s Young and Emerging Artists Mentorship (Tasmania) to undertake a mentorship program with renowned contemporary jeweller Marian Hosking, and in 2008 awarded a product development grant to work with esteemed Australian designer Robert Foster (F!nk& Co.). She has twice been selected to participate in Tasmania’s Design Island workshops with international designers Interware (Italy) in 2007 and David Trubridge (New Zealand) in 2009. Most recently her work has been published in ‘Art & Science NOW!’ S.Wilson, Thames & Hudson, 2010.
To date, Karin has undertaken seven voyages to the Antarctic continent and continues to journey there approximately every two years, gaining inspiration for new works and fuelling her passion for combining science and art in contemporary design.

Karin BeaumontKarin grew up in South Australia where she developed a love of nature that led her to undertake a Bachelor of Applied Science in Natural Resources Management at the University of Adelaide, 1992-1994. In 1995 she moved to Hobart, Tasmania to pursue an Honours degree in Antarctic studies and fulfil her childhood dream of living and working in Antarctica. She completed a PhD in Zoology at the University of Tasmania in 2002, researching microscopic plankton in Antarctic waters and their role in climate change.
Inspired by microscopic patterns and forms, she created her first piece of metal sculpture in the diesel mechanics workshop at Davis Station, Antarctica. She began a Diploma of Art, Craft, Design in silver-smithing in 2003 hoping to use her creativity to promote awareness of microscopic marine life and their role in global climate change. Her jewellery and wearable artwork has been exhibited in The Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, Conrad Jupiter's Art Prize and the Macquarie University World Year of Physics Art Prize.
Oceanides was born from an appreciation of microscopic patterns and forms during Karin's scientific research in Antarctic marine ecology.
During her research, she observed a wealth of diversity of microscopic plankton, which exhibit such beauty that she believes they should not be restricted to the eyes of scientists!

All parcels are sent via Australian Air Express within Australia. All parcels need to be signed for on delivery, so we recommend use of a business address if there will not be someone home during business hours. If your parcel cannot be delivered you will receive a notification card and and you will need to make alternative arrangements for collection with the courier. International deliveries + bulky items
All shipping is calculated as flat rate and quoted for Australian delivery. Any International deliveries or items marked as "bulky" or "additional shipping may apply" will be calculated based on goods and destination and charged at checkout. If, in the rare situation that delivery costs exceed your expectations and you wish to cancel the order, top3 by design will fully refund the amount currently charged to your card on that order.
RETURNS + EXCHANGES POLICY
Your satisfaction is our main concern. If you are unhappy with an item you can return it for an exchange, store credit or refund which will be issued in the same form as the original payment, within 14 calendar days of the receipt.
Customer satisfaction
It is very important to us that Top3 by design customers are satisfied with their purchase and understand our terms and conditions. Please read the following policy regarding returns and exchanges. If you remain in any way uncertain, please call or email us.The product you return must be in: new, unused, pristine and unmarked condition, with all the original packaging in unmarked, saleable condition. Proof of purchase must be provided for all returns. Proof of purchase can be in the form of a receipt, credit card statement, or top3 membership ID if the item has been purchased on your top3 membership.
Special Order items (which are indicated online as such) are not able to be returned or exchanged, as they are ordered by customer request.
Products can be returned instore or to our warehouse. If you are sending the item back to the top3 warehouse please notify us before you return the item by phone (1300 867 333) or email (orders@top3.com.au) so we can provide you with a returns form and the instructions for returning your items. If you would like to request an exchange you can let us know at this time of your new selection, so we are able to reserve this for you.
