With a nod to the legendary Japanese cooking show, Iron Designer introduced a cast of design disciples who battled head-to-head on stage for the coveted crown of Iron Designer.

This live, action-packed event revealed the intricate thoughts and visual approach of architects and designers.

In this live, stage event hosted by ABC media presenter Robbie Buck, a cast of designers went head-to-head to create a piece of work in the space of 20 minutes.

Teams from design outfits included: Frost Design, Digital Eskimo, Blue Sky Design Group, Sixty40, 4Design, PIDCOCK Architecture + Sustainablity, UTS School of Design and Tribe Studio.

(SPECIAL NOTE TO UTS FROM THE JUDGES: We had more to say to make light of the score we gave you guys, and we feel bad it came over the way it did, because we didn't get to finish - good effort!!!


Iron Designer reveals the way designers think and how they translate that thought process into something tangible. The night was run in two rounds with four teams competing per round. The winners of each round then played off for the Iron Designer crown as the night’s thrilling grand final.

Iron Designer was produced by Melbourne’s Studio Binocular and this was its first Sydney appearance.
Based on the enthusiasm from the sell out crowd at the Coles Theatre, Powerhouse Museum, Iron Designer will be back again!
