As part of our ongoing effort and mission to make Top 3 the Australian home for the world's best design studios, there are some brands we always knew would be part of our catalogue. This is the case with Iittala, one of the most iconic representatives of Nordic design.

The history of Iittala begins in 1881. This design studio started as a small manufacturer of glass creations, but it did not take long for it to become a fledgling design studio. By the time Europe went through a period of prosperity in the wake of World War I, littala was already collaborating with designers who wished to improve upon the Scandinavian design by injecting elements of modernism.

Get to Know the Aalto Vase

The big break for this Finnish studio came when Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalton created a new and exciting design for a glass vase that ended up becoming the highlight of the Paris World Exhibition in 1937. The Aalto vase is not only iconic for littala but also Nordic design in general; indeed, this wonder of modernist styling is what sets Scandinavian and Nordic design apart.

Other Iittala Pieces Available From Top 3

When our customers see an Iittala vase for the first time, not only are they enchanted by the design, but they invariably want to learn more about what the brand has to offer. Along with that exquisite vase, the Iittala Bowl is another piece that stands out for its unmistakable Nordic lines. While many fans of the Iittala vase choose it as a home decoration item, it can safely be used as tableware or kitchenware; in fact, this is how they are commonly used in Finland. Other items in the Top 3 littala range include cast iron casseroles, wine glasses, tumblers, and glass trays.
